OA Big Book Solution Group

Compulsive eating is an illness — but there is a solution.

Compulsive eating is an illness of the body and mind, but there is a solution. By working the 12 steps precisely as outlined in the Big Book of Alcoholics Anonymous, we have found a way to live sober from our compulsive eating with a happiness and freedom that we had never imagined possible.

“If, when you honestly want to, you cannot quit entirely, or when drinking,¹ you have little control over the amount you take, you are probably alcoholic.² If that be the case, you may be suffering from an illness which only a spiritual experience will conquer.”

(Big Book, p. 44)

“To show other alcoholics² precisely how we have recovered is the main purpose of this book” (and of this group).

(Big Book, p. xiii)

“We are not fighting it,¹ neither are we avoiding temptation. We feel as though we had been placed in a position of neutrality...”

(Big Book, p. 85)

¹ Compulsive eating. ² Compulsive eaters.

“Rarely have we seen a person fail who has thoroughly followed our path.”

(Big Book, p. 58)
